so, what's this about then?
If you’re an actor, performer, or creative trying to stay visible while the industry keeps shifting, you know this already: headshots matter. But affording them? Sometimes, that’s another story.
So, for one day only, I’m opening my books to anyone who needs headshots in Glasgow — with no fixed cost. Just pay what you can.
I’ve worked with performers and creatives for over 20 years, and I know exactly how tough it can be between gigs, jobs, or opportunities. That’s why I’m running this one-off Pay What You Can headshot event — designed to give people access to high-quality, professional portraits, regardless of budget.
This day isn’t about charity. It’s about showing up for my creative community, It’s about showing up for the people who rarely get seen, especially those from marginalised or underrepresented backgrounds, or anyone just struggling to get their foot in the door. Been there. Done that. Still got the T-shirt (and I have a lot of t-shirts).
If you’ve heard me speak at our Scottish Creative Network events, you’ll know I’m deeply passionate about community. So many of us are quietly grafting away, unseen and underpaid. Hell, even as I write this there’s seething frustration when we have an A-list Hollywood moving filming on our city streets which hasn’t even employed any Scottish production talent.
After chatting with a few local community theatre groups recently who had a bunch of cast members really struggling, I figured: sod it. Let’s make inclusive photography for creatives a bit more real. Everyone could use a good headshot so if you’re finding it hard right now, I’m up for helping.
So here’s the deal.
You’ll get a 20-30 minute shoot, two edited images, and a professional experience – whether you pay £0 or £100. No judgement, just some good shots done my way.
This is open to all, but especially for those in the creative and performing arts who’ve been hit hard financially or feel excluded from the usual routes. You might recently have arrived in Glasgow and are struggling to find your feet. I’d like to do something to help my creative community – wherever you’re from, or whatever you do.
But here’s the tea. What this isn’t: It’s not for accountants and business owners looking to save a few quid and go for the cheap option because they think photography is ‘expensive’.
This is my way of supporting my community, so please don’t be that guy taking advantage. If you’re looking for my commercial headshot rates, here’s where you go.
For everyone else — the creatives, the underdogs, the ones still trying — this day’s for you.

‘Pay-what-you-can’ headshot sessions for artists, actors, and performers navigating a tough economy.
It’s tough out there, I know it and you know it. So, let me help you in the best way I can.
Refresh your headshot, quickly. One look. Two images. Real impact.
I'll only do this once this year. Don't miss it.
The date and location will be announced soon, expected to be a Saturday at the end of August or beginning of September 2025. It’ll either be central Glasgow or not far – somewhere in easy reach of public transport – I’m in discussions with a few venues just now.
Many folk will know me for my street photography, but these sessions will be studio style – we won’t be shooting out on the streets. So, no weather issues to worry about!

so what do I get?
30 min session
It'll be a simple setup. Nothing elaborate that takes ages to set up. We'll be efficient, and nail that headshot quickly, together. One outfit, one look - easy.
Two edited images
We'll review the shots together, and you can pick the two you like. Basic retouching will be included - but not elaborate Photoshop work.
Images back within 7 days
There will be no proofing galleries to wait on - you'll choose your favourites there and then.
Truth being told, you'll likely get your headshots back waaaaay quicker.
What does 'pay what you can' mean, really?
It means just that. This is a cut down, simple shoot. Not everyone has the means to fund a full shoot right now. It's rough out there, and I get it. If you're struggling, I want to help. Pay as little or as much as you can afford. And do you know what? If that's nothing, that's fine. There's no judgement. I want to help every group in our creative community. All I do ask is respect - don't be the rich kid that turns up to blag a freebie.
This is ideal if you just need a simple headshot. If you’re just getting started – maybe you’re in that ‘middle stage’ of going from amateur or student and starting to push yourself out there for professional work.
Maybe you’ve never worked with a photographer to get headshots before and you just want to dip your toe in the water.
Or – as many of us are – things are a bit tight right now, and you can’t quite stretch to a full headshot session. There’s no shame or judgement in that. We all feel it, so if I can help ease that burden a little, I’m more than happy to.
And when I say ‘Pay What You Can’ – I mean it.
New to this? If you’ve never had headshots before, and don’t know what to expect or want some tips – here’s a few of my hints to give you some guidance.
This isn’t just about getting photos. It’s about showing up for the people who make the Scottish creative scene shine – even when times are tough.
