More masts for Virgin Media O2

A BIT OF NEW (YET OLD) CLIENT STUFF FROM THIS SUMMER

Those of you who are reading this that know me well, will know that this year I left Liberty Global (and previously Virgin Media) after over 15 years.

In that time, I worked on endless internal and external campaigns, people engagement and communications.

So while I did a lot of previous work for what is now Virgin Media O2, on the Shared Rural Network project in my internal role, I was very happy to be approached to continue that work for them on an independent basis.

I imagine most people reading the blog on a photographer/filmmaker’s site don’t know what the Shared Rural Network programme is, though – so in a nutshell, it’s a collaboration between the UK’s biggest mobile providers and the UK Government to improve mobile connectivity in rural areas, expanding coverage to areas that currently have either little or no connectivity, or areas in which only one operator is available. So it brings increased connectivity and network competition in remote places across the UK as a whole. I’ve worked with VMO2 to produce a number of short PR pieces covering their part of the SRN project rollout in Scotland – including Skye, Islay, Shetland, Orkney and in this case, Uist.

It’s not easy to shoot a lot of this type of content as one person, often up on a remote hill in the wilderness, and in driving winds – but each of these pieces has worked very well for VMO2 to showcase the challenges of building mobile infrastructure in the UK’s toughest spots. You can find out more with some of the previous clips and press coverage. While featuring a lot on industry news sites, I was pleased to see these pieces have been used across STV, The Herald, The Scotsman and The National.

For this specific part of the project, I created a short video for LinkedIn/press release, some PR photography and social media videos for their corporate Instagram pages.

I look forward to continuing to support VMO2 as a client with this programme through the course of the year.
